This work is known to us from the letter "Philippe Smit 1912/13b": "[...] ce croquis [fig. 1] que je t est/ fait c'est un moulin au bord/ de la Viones quelle jolie Non a/ cette rivierè [...] J'ai l'attention de faire un tableau/ de ce moulin au bord de l'eau car j'en effet qu'un/ pastel. Mais je crois que/ ca vaut la peine d'enfaire/ un tableaux tu ne trouve pas? [...]" [sic] (... this sketch [fig. 1] which I made for you is a mill on the edge of the Viosne, what a beautiful name for this river. ... I intend to make a painting of this mill at the edge of the water as I have only done a pastel of it. But I think it is worth making a painting of it, don't you think? ...)
